Although we had plenty of exciting conference tournament games on Friday, it was for the most part uneventful until later at night. We finally have our first conference championship game set and it's in the Ohio Valley. Popular pool pick (4) Little Rock was throttled tonight by (1) Southeast Missouri State and will play (2) SIU Edwardsville Saturday, who edged out (3) Tennessee State, to determine our first ticket punched to the NCAA tournament. (1) SE Missouri State was picked by almost 37% of our pool, while (2) SIUE is backed by 6 people. Although we'll finally have a number in the win column of the standings, no bonus points will be awarded, which makes 50% of the pool happy. I expect a tight game as SE Missouri State is only a 2-point favorite as of this morning. 🏀
We had a few upsets Friday night that really shook up the standings as (3) Northern Iowa, (3) South Dakota State and (4) North Dakota State all lost in really terrible fashion to much worse teams. The Northern Iowa loss is one of the worst as they lost to a Valparaiso team in shambles and have intermural guys in the starting lineup and an AD with questionable morals. But we will move on! As of today, 14 out of 31 conferences are now in progress and this weekend will close out the regular season. Starting Monday, all games played will be conference tournament games.
I expect to post several updates either via blog and/or updated standings today with so much action going on, including several semifinals games. The Big South, Missouri Valley, Northeast Conference and Summit League will have championship game matchups set by the end of Saturday night. I'll break each of those championship games down in terms of pool impact once they are finalized. In the meantime, enjoy a billion regular season and conference tournament games today.
