Today we are only going to focus on the Northeast Conference tournament because all 8 teams are in action as this league starts right away in the quarterfinals. 67% of our pool picks are on (1) Central Connecticut State and the computers give them a 77% chance of winning this conference tournament. However, the 1-seed has only won this tournament 4 times over the last 10 years, so I would not hand the trophy to Central Connecticut State yet. It is also possible that we all escape tonight without a pool loss as the remainder of the picks are on (2) LIU, with Jenn all by herself on (4) Fairleigh Dickinson, hoping to re-capture that 2023 magic. 🪄
While the Big South and Summit League also tip off with first round action today, with the Sun Belt continuing its "first round" ladder bracket games, the Ohio Valley conference is the only other tournament with potential pool implications. 🏀
The Ohio Valley conference only allows 8 teams to participate in its tournament but still has a first round for its 5-8 seeds. B.I. and Pickle My Ballz are both on (5) Tennessee Tech who takes on (8) UT Martin at 6:00 PM CST, making that a game to keep our eye on. Surprisingly, as immature as this match-up sounds, nobody is on (6) Lindenwood vs. (7) Morehead State at 8:30 PM CST. 😁
On Thursday, my favorite conferences tip off, the Missouri Valley and West Coast. Arch Madness is always really well done, and the West Coast conference is played at the Orleans, giving us our first glimpse of Vegas! The first-round action in these conferences won't impact our pool, but it will still be fun to watch. Conferences that are in action and moving to the next round on Thursday include the Atlantic Sun semifinals, Horizon League quarterfinals, Ohio Valley quarterfinals, Patriot League quarterfinals Summit League quarterfinals and the Sun Belt ladder of doom, let's call it second round action.
Enjoy these early round games, especially those of you that don't have any teams at risk. It's very relaxing watching others in the pool rack up early losses. Here are the current standings which now include a few more conference seeds finalized.
